About the photograph: Miran, 17, is studying on the shoulder of the dirt road of the village. This is the main road used to smuggle fuel to Afghanistan. He says: “I don’t want to be a fuel smuggler like most men in the village. I want to study and go to university” Finding a job is the most important reason for immigration in this region. Most of the inhabitants of the village have turned to gasoline smuggling to make ends meet. They fill barrels with gasoline in the comfort of their own private yards. people in this village still use tankers for drinking water.
The Hamoun wetlands in the Sistan-Balouchestan strategic province in the south-eastern of Iran are transboundary wetlands on the border of Iran-Afghanistan were one of the world's most important wetlands under the Ramsar Convention in 1975 and the biggest freshwater lake in Iran's plain. IRAN’S TARNISHED GEM tells a story about the environmental disaster at Salt Lake Urmia of Iran | Unframed, Hahnemühle Photo Rag® 308gsm Matte | 100% cotton paper |

About the photograph: Urmia Lake in the north of Iran, which was once the largest lake in the Middle East second largest salt lake on the planet. In the early 1970s, nature and humanity have chipped away at this gem tucked in northwestern Iran, reducing its size by about 80 percent over the past 30 years. The flamingos that feasted on brine shrimp in this UNESCO biosphere reserve are mostly gone. So are the pelicans, the egrets, and the ducks. Even the tourists who flocked to Lake Urmia for therapeutic baths in its warm, hypersaline waters are staying away. Salt Lake Urmia of Iran | Unframed, Hahnemühle Photo Rag® 308gsm Matte | 100% cotton paper |

About the photograph: A local woman walks on a pier on the coast of salt Lake of Urmia. Lake Urmia (also spelt Oromieh)was once the largest lake in the Middle East and the second-largest salt lake on the planet. Salt lake Urmia remains a UNESCO biosphere reserve. However, the lake has lost 88% of its area and 80% of its volume since 1972 due to increasing temperatures and water mismanagement.
In this long-term ongoing personal-environmental story that I started in 2014, I tried to demonstrate the impacts of the drying of Urmia Lake on my own family, ecosystem, and people living around it to reflect the interconnectedness of humans and the environment.2016

This photo showcases a local woman making her way home in a village near the Hamoun wetlands, once known as one of the world's most important wetlands under the Ramsar Convention in 1975. However, the wetlands have experienced significant transformation into a desert-like landscape in the past 15 years due to drought, Iran-Afghan conflicts over the Helmand River, and the construction of dams for poppy cultivation in Afghanistan. The "Hamoun Wetland to Wasteland" project aims to draw attention to the water crisis, climate change, and drought in the south and southeast of Iran, including the Persian Gulf and its coastal areas, by highlighting the environmental, economic, and social impacts of recent droughts (2018).

About the photograph: In southeastern Iran, the Martian Mountains or Miniature Mountains are badlands stretched out parallel to the Gulf of Oman. The excavation of many fossils belonging to fish indicates that Martian Mountains were underwater in ancient times. The geometric patterns of the mountains have been created by rapid soil erosion caused by wind and rain as if a skilled painter had carved them. 2018
